The braies are awfully poofy, but I made them big enough to fit him for several years. He's been running around playing for quite a while now, and nothing has fallen off. His feet have even stayed in the stirrups. I call this a success.
I know I should comment on the seamwork... But I just have to say that he is a very pretty child!
Cool to see historical stuff made for babies and children. I won't say it's a neglected field, but it's not what "most people" deal with (maybe because of the lack of children to make stuff for... Hehe).
You might have said it previously, but did you make these of wool?
The first clothes I made for my daughter (who is 6 now) were pretty terrible quickie machine-topstitched junk. Part of this is trying to balance my sewing karma from those early attempts. It's also just fun to experiment with unfamiliar styles on a small scale.
I was planning to make the chausses out of wool, but I ended up using linen instead. Incidentally, the way I laid them out on the fabric to conserve fabric just happened to put them on the bias. Serendipity!

And not fear of fellow apprentices giving you h*ll? /ducking and running
Nah, I wouldn't do that to a poor baby. He doesn't get to choose his garb yet, after all.
